We’ve all heard the proverb “Laughter is the best medicine”. Think about it…it’s actually true! Using humor is one of the best ways to reduce stress and be happier and healthier physically, mentally and socially. Stress buildup is proven to be a “risk factor in heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and migraine headaches” (Dugan, 1989). Laughter is the original “all natural” yet scientifically proven method to reduce stress! And it’s free! Laughter is quite therapeutic – it helps to relieve anxiety by reducing stress hormone levels. Laughter also releases endorphins which help you feel better physically and emotionally.
OK, so you’re not good at telling jokes. Start out simple….with a big SMILE!
Here’s one of my favorite “funny” nurse-related pictures from Photobucket.com. Enjoy!
